The release was sent to reporters on letterhead that read “Morgan Griffith for Congress.“ He is the first Republican to express interest in the race so clearly. The 51-year-old lawyer lives in the 6th District, just a few feet outside the boundary of Boucher’s 9th District, a mountainous, coal-country swing district. Virginia law requires only that a U.S. House candidate be a resident of the state, not the district.
