New details in Richmond helicopter crash

Virginia State Police today released new information on a helicopter crash last night on Walmsley Boulevard in Richmond that left three people with minor injuries. Authorities said the 1993 Robinson Beta two-seater took off from Richmond International Airport headed for Lunenburg County, where the pilot and his passenger both live. The chopper was about 900 feet in the air when it experienced engine problems about 9:15 p.m., police said. The helicopter hit some power lines on its descent, and the propeller struck the hood of a car that was traveling on Walmsley Boulevard near Atlantic Avenue, said state police Sgt. Tom Cunningham.
